College Tip #10: Upperclassmen Friends.

justinrecio:

A tip meant for the freshman, and even sophomores: don’t be afraid to make friends with the upperclassmen. Once you hit college, age and one’s year aren’t really factors in creating friendships, unless you go to a community college (I hear it’s like going to high school all over again).

Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to people who are older than you. In fact, most of us upperclassmen enjoy it when you do so; it shows that you have some courage. Yes, technically we can initiate first contact, since you’re new and vulnerable, but just give it a shot every once in a while. We have knowledge and experience with the university lifestyle and we’re willing to help you out if you ever needed it. We can tell you what classes and professors to take, which to avoid, tell you about the “spots” on campus, and which spots to avoid, tell you about places to go to in the area, etc.

Just befriend us. We’ll take advantage of you and ask you to take us into your first year commons, and things like that, but we’re totally worth it.
